The Best Beaches in Asia

Asia is famous for its culture and food but mostly for it’s insanely beautiful beaches! If you’ve ever seen ‘The Beach’ you’ll know what I mean. I, for one, am 100% a beach lover! My holidays are always beach-focused and I’ve been lucky enough to sample a few of Asia’s amazing beaches. So, from my own experiences and those of my colleague Chris, I have come up with a selection of what we know are the BEST beaches in the whole of Asia and where we would recommend staying to enjoy them…

Palawan, Philippines

The province of Palawan is often described as the hidden gem of the Philippines with unspoilt beaches and dramatic limestone cliffs. For the most idyllic of beaches head to the tiny island of Pamalican, a white-sandy heaven surrounded by seven square kilometres of immaculate coral reef.

Where to Stay: The only place to stay on Pamalican is Amanpulo. This spacious resort is simply wonderful offering casitas on the white sandy beach, amongst the treetops or on the hillside giving you breathtaking views of the Sulu Sea below.

Koh Rong, Cambodia

Away from the backpacker heaven Sihanoukville lays the untouched islands of Koh Rong. Here you will experience some of the whitest sands and the most turquoise waters in the whole of South East Asia. Let your toes sink into the talcum-powder sand and your ankles be tickled by the crystal clear warm waters. Paradise!

Where to stay: Song Saa is Cambodia’s most luxurious resort spreading across two pristine islands. This eco-friendly dreamland offers a variety of rooms ranging from the Jungle Villa to the Royal Over Water Villa. Luxury!

Phra Nang Beach, Thailand

Thailand is world-famous for its beach scene. Phra Nang Beach in Railay is arguably one of the most breathtaking beaches in the world. The beach is surrounded by awe-inspiring limestone rock formations framing the white sands. For the more adventurous traveller an afternoon rock-climbing is definitely an unforgettable experience!

Where to stay: Rayavadee Resort is bordered by not one but three beaches (including Phra Nang) which look out on to the glorious Andaman Sea. The resort itself is an award-winning 5* property that oozes luxury from the very moment you arrive…by speed boat!

Pulau Gaya Island, Borneo

Pulau Gaya Island is 10 minutes off the coast of Kota Kinabalu and is the largest island in the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park. The picturesque beaches and clear waters alive with marine life make this one of the best beaches to enjoy in Asia.

Where to stay: Gaya Island Resort is the most exclusive resort in the area accessible only by boat. It is eco-friendly and tastefully combines elegance with nature. Situated between the beautiful beach and the lush rainforest, this retreat will give you an unforgettable experience. Trust me, I went there in early 2013 and had the most relaxing time!

Ngapali, Burma

The idyllic palm lined beach of Ngapali is the perfect place to relax and rejuvenate at the end of a trip to Burma. A tranquil escape from Myanmar where you can really put into action the ‘flop and drop’. After the sun sets take a stroll along the beach and admire the lanterns of the fisherman’s boats bobbing peacefully at sea. Magical!

Where to stay: The Sandoway Hotel is situated right on the beachfront and is the perfect place to settle into paradise. Designed in traditional South East Asian elegance this is a 5* resort at its best!
