Many people see the Maldives as a great destination to relax for a few days, tagged onto the end of a trip around India or Sri Lanka. Beautiful white sand, crystal clear water and nothing to do but relax… Bliss, but only for a few days. We want to dispel this belief! Resorts in the Maldives offer so many wonderful experiences and activities, it’s easy to fill seven days there and still be left wanting more. We give you the lowdown on the top things to do with a seven day stay at Constance Moofushi, a chic barefoot luxury resort in South Ari Atoll. So whether you’re planning a honeymoon or a family holiday, take a look at the below for inspiration on how to get the most out of your Maldivian getaway!
Day 1 – Snorkelling from the Beach
Arriving at Constance Moofushi is an adventure in itself. A short and exciting journey by sea plane takes you from Malé International Airport to the resort, while clear turquoise seas stretch out all around you. Settle in and spend your first day around the resort and on the private beach. You don’t have to be a diver to enjoy the fascinating underwater world of the Maldives. A snorkel, mask and fin are your passport to enriching your holiday experience. Constance Moofushi has one of the best house reefs in the Maldives – and what’s more it can be reached from the beach, so you don’t even have to leave the island to sample the incredible and unforgettable coral reefs that the Maldives is known for! Swim along the reef and look out for giant porcupine fish, hawksbill turtles, clouds of orange anthias, and if you are lucky you may meet napoleon fish or rays. Snorkelling equipment is free to all, so there is nothing stopping you!
Day 2 – Enjoy a Sandbank Picnic or Sunset Cruise
Take a traditional dhoni to Constance Moofushi’s private sandbank where a private chef will cook you up a delicious lunch and then leave you to make the most of this private island for an afternoon! They leave you with a mobile phone, so when you’ve had enough, just call for the dhoni to come back and get you. You can also take the dhoni out for a sunset cruise – relax on the boat and soak up this breath-taking scenery at the most beautiful time of day. You will be served sparkling wine and canapés and if you’re lucky you may be joined by dolphins in the surrounding ocean!
Day 3 – Big Game Fishing and Traditional Night Fishing
Head out with Constance Moofushi’s experienced Maldivian crew on a big game fishing trip. You have the chance to catch sailfish, wahoo, yellow tuna, Dorado and blue, black and striped marlin. You can even venture out on a traditional night-time fishing trip for a touch of added adventure. Leave Moofushi at dusk on a dhoni to go to the area’s best secret fishing places. Successful fishers will come back with some of the best reef fish: grouper, rainbow runner, green job and blue fin jack.
Day 4 – Diving the Spectacular House Reef
Having already taken a dip into the wonderful marine life of Moofushi with a bit of snorkelling on your first day, now is the time to try diving! A visit to the Maldives is incomplete without experiencing the realms of the underwater world, and South Ari Atoll is one of the best diving spots in the Maldives. As one of the very few resorts in the Maldives to be surrounded by a spectacular house reef, Constance Moofushi has excellent opportunities for all abilities. Huge table corals and a plethora of reef life including stingrays, sea cucumbers, lionfish, turtles and eels are all on view metres from the resort, while the Main Reef on the eastern side of the island faces a channel where migratory species such as mantas, whale sharks and dolphins pass right by. If you are a keen diver or just a beginner, then Moofushi is a great destination. Beginners can get started in the pool with a free ‘Introduction to Scuba Diving’. For serious divers there is the choice of 32 dive sites within 30 minutes of the island!
Day 5 – Wine Tasting in the Ocean
Spend the day relaxing on the beach or making use of the complimentary water sports that are on offer, such as catamaran sailing, pedal boating, windsurfing and kayaking. As evening arrives, enjoy Constance Moofushi’s fantastic wine-tasting excursion with a twist! As the sun sets on another wonderful day in the Maldives, you will be welcomed by their talented sommeliers to sample a number of their favourite wines, whilst standing knee-deep in the clear waters of the Indian Ocean. Wine has never tasted so good!
Day 6 – Visit the Traditional Local Villages
We think gaining an understanding of the surrounding area adds a really special touch to a stay in the Maldives. There is more to the Maldives than luxury resorts and happy honeymooners; visit the local fishing village of Himandoo for a glimpse of the Maldivian way of life. See the mosque where villagers do their daily prayers, the open-air children’s primary school and the boat yard. Friendly local children will welcome you as you walk around the village. There is also a main street of shops where you can find souvenirs and local crafts to bring back as a memento of your trip.
Day 7 – Experience Cinefushi
It’s your final morning on gorgeous Moofushi. If you’re looking for ultimate relaxation and to find your inner Zen, make use of the fantastic spa which hovers over the tranquil turquoise water, or take part in an outdoor exercise class or yoga in the peaceful yoga pavilion. Enjoy an evening of ‘Cinefushi’ – an experience very unique to Constance Moofushi and the perfect way to spend your final night in paradise. Relax on the beautiful white sands of this stunning island and watch your favourite movie under the Maldivian night sky. Whilst you enjoy the film, you will be served your favourite cocktails, popcorn and canapés by the resort’s attentive staff. Constance Moofushi has a selection of about 1000 movies, and if they’ve not got the film you want they will try to get hold of it for you. Want to plan the perfect evening before you even leave home? You can put in a film request as soon as you’ve booked your trip!
Heading home after seven beautiful days in the Maldives, you’ll have memories that will last forever but a desperate urge to return and make more!
